MAIN PRACTICE AREAS
Ours is a full-service law firm, comprised of lawyers experienced in different fields of legal specialization. BUFETE LOPEZ PARDO’s overall strength is a result of the way in which we bring this specialized expertise together in the service of our clients.
Our practice areas include:
According to the Mexican Law all mercantile companies require to have legal books for Shareholders meetings, Board of Directors meetings and Shareholder Book Registration and shares itself.
Also we manage legal formalities like granting powers of attorney for each particular case, protocolizations, legalizations, etc.
ACQUISITIONS & MERGERS
Since the firm's founding, when Mexico faced foreign investors legislation, BUFETE LOPEZ PARDO has worked closely with multinational companies established in Mexico. After a period of serious restrictions in the '70s and '80s, Mexico is now well into the age of economic globalization, in which the majority of formerly state-owned enterprises have now been privatized (with the process continuing) and foreign investment and participation in domestic business is appropriately welcomed. As always, BUFETE LOPEZ PARDO is helping its clients take advantage of the opportunities in this friendly business climate.
Companies -- primarily those located outside of Mexico -- need help from lawyers who have the specialized skills necessary to carry out joint ventures, licensing agreements, acquisitions and mergers, including the negotiation and structuring of both purchases and sales. BUFETE LOPEZ PARDO’s lawyers have those skills, as well as a familiarity with the requirements of the acquiring companies.
FRANCHISES & FRANCHISING
The Mexican government has, in recent years, minimized the difficulties for foreign companies to establish franchises and obtain licenses. Today Mexican companies can more easily register and franchise their businesses abroad, and foreign companies are better able to do likewise in Mexico.
Representing both franchisers and franchisees in a broad range of industries, BUFETE LOPEZ PARDO has negotiated a large number and variety of franchise and licensing agreements to ensure that the agreements comply with Mexican law. Our long history of dealing with government officials helps smooth the process for our clients. We also assist companies to find suitable parties in Mexico to license their franchises.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, TRADEMARKS AND COPYRIGHTS
Much of our intellectual property work is for non-Mexican companies conducting business in Mexico. Our staff helps foreign companies to register trademarks and copyrights and maintain them by handling the necessary renewals. We also perform trademark searches and prepare and register user agreements.
LABOR, EMPLOYMENT AND EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
Our labor law practice covers the full spectrum of employment relations including labor policies. The firm's lawyers act as advisers, contract negotiators and litigators, always representing the employer.
We advise foreign clients on Mexican labor and employee benefit laws, as well as help them to avoid -- and, when necessary, contend with -- employee relations issues. We have experience dealing with Mexico's powerful unions and have spearheaded labor negotiations and crafted collective contracts.
LITIGATION AND ALTERNATE DISPUTE RESOLUTION
Mexico is not nearly as litigious as the Anglo-Saxon world, but our litigation attorneys have an active practice representing clients in various courts throughout the country. Much of the litigation and arbitration we handle is contractual in nature, although we represent clients in all types of business-related civil matters, including stockholder conflicts, real estate and mercantile disputes, contractual obligations and matters involving insurance, copyright, and wills, estates and trusts. We also commonly handle currency problems and resolve difficulties among joint venture partners.
Although we represent private companies in suits against the government, our efforts have not impaired the solid working relationship we enjoy with the authorities.
